Luke Lewis on Shania-Mercury. Mercury Nashville Chairman and Country Music Association President Luke Lewis has talked with the press regarding Nashville, music and projects in the aftermath of the September 11 events. Regarding the relationship between traditional country and cross-over music, Lewis has also mentioned Mercury's BIGGEST success Shania: "I think we can come out the other end as long as we're not too reliant on the superstars, but a lot of us are. This label would be going through some hard times without Shania Twain, and several of us around town have been fortunate enough to have something like that happen." NEW BMI Award for Shania! The BMI COUNTRY Awards took place on Tuesday night (Nov. 6, 2001): BMI Awards go to Only songWRITERS for the Most Played Songs of the Year. Since Shania has been out of the spotlight for a LONG time, it's not a shock that she's Not played on the radio Nearly as much as she was back around 1999 & 2000 (when she was taking home Armfuls of BMIs). Despite Shania's absence from the spotlight, she Still managed to earn One BMI Award for having "You've Got A Way" being one of the 50 Most Played Country songs of the Year! The BMI Award she got on Tuesday for "You've Got A Way" became her TWENTY-THIRD (23rd) BMI Award in her Career! CONGRATULATIONS SHANIA! (Thanks Ck, from the STNAOFC Messageboard !)
Construction Costs for Shania Centre. The Timmins Daily Press website discusses the issue of the real costs the city of Timmins had to pay for the construction of the Shania Twain Centre. Specific numbers are not available yet, but there is the prediction that final costs were much higher than expected. "Construction costs still not known for new Shania Centre. More than four months after the opening of the Shania Twain Centre, the City of Timmins has yet to reveal the actual cost of the centre. Two city councillors are starting to fear the worst about the construction costs. Coun. John Curley and Coun. Tom Laughren both expect the $11.5 million Shania Twain Centre and Timmins Gold Mine Tour upgrade to come in over budget. Since the centre opened June 30, councillors have been pushing to find out the financial details of construction. Laughren is frustrated at the amount of time it has taken to gather the finances of the centre...The initial cost of the project was shared by a number government and private sector sources. The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation committed nearly $5 million, the City of Timmins provided $1.5 million and private sector donations and other government sources covered the remainder of the cost of the 990 square metre centre which includes the Miner's Pick store, a small cafe and offices, a temporary exhibit area and the main Shania Twain exhibit area." The Shania Train! The Ontario Northland website has posted a photo of the Shania Train! The website deals with issues of economic development in Northern ontario, and the train wrapping advertisement is used to promote the area. After the Shania Bus , the Shania Train (here below) is one among many artist conceptions utilizing the Northlander passenger coaches as advertizing for Northern Attractions. Shania Centre "On Its Way"! An article posted online at the Timmins Daily Press website states that the Shania Centre is indeed a success: projections for visitors are very good! "The Shania Twain Centre is on track to achieving its projected number of visitors for its first year. Will Saari, tourism and attractions manager for the city, says visitation is meeting initial projections even with a decrease in American and European visitors in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The centre and the Timmins Underground Gold Mine Tour combined have had about 12,000 visitors since the centre opened in the summer. Saari estimates 7-8,000 went through the Shania exhibits. Baby Lange Fundraiser Amount! The Shania Twain North American Online Fan Club has now the final amount raised for the "Baby Lange Donation." The Timmins Hospital and America's Second Harvest, the two organizations that had been voted to receive the donation, will receive each US $753.75.
