Shania Centre Exhibits UPDATE and New HOURS! The Shania Twain Centre will have a newly organised exhibit of Shania memorabilia by the end of May 2002! Many more Shania items will now be on display, they have totally re-done the hall of inspiration as well as the musical intrument area. Some work is also being done in the backstage area. Here below is a short description of some of the many innovative changes made:

"The musical instrument area: the only thing that remains is the wall piano, since it is built right in, and the kids especially seem to enjoy it. The large pipe organ is now out in the front foyer.

The Foyer: they have three new costume cases as "teaser" exhibits, as well as the organ as mentioned and a video kiosk that highlights the video shot during Shania's homecoming in 1996 and the outfit she wore then. We are also working on an "electronic" guest book to replace the paper version. It will sit on a large design table that Shania autographed. This kiosk will also eventually allow people to send an "electronic postcard" to a home or friends e-mail address and will consist of an e-mail message with a graphic attachment of the building with "Greetings from the Shania Twain Centre" printed on it. People could then print it, save it as a desktop background, or whatever.

The Hall of Inspiration: they are carrying on the three themes of Fans, City of Timmins and "Early Career," but with expanded exhibits including more costumes from the early days at Deerhurst. They have converted the two guitar kiosks into personal viewing stations that show DVD and Video clips of varous performances, for those that just can't get enough. There is a new costume case installed on the back wall that is identical to the one we already had in place. There are four costumes installed from the videos along with some background designs and props. The original costume case is being re-done to highlight some of the other outfits as well as some of the more obscure stuff that the "general" sort of fan may not have seen.
The wedding dress is being moved to it's own stand alone case. Overall, we will be highlighting an additional 15 - 18 outfits than we had before.

The Backstage Area: it is also being re-done to a new level.

The Theater Presentation: it will also be re-formatted at some point, but probabley not until the new release is out so that we can incorporate some of that material. It is very expensive to have the production redone, so we will have to see where that takes us." A HUGE Thanks to Mr. Will Saari and Karen  Bach for a job well-done!

Country Stars-Question of the Day! The country music website countrystars.com has posted a Question of the Day on Shania:
"Q: Why did Shania Twain give up her music for awhile when she was 22 years old?
A: When Shania Twain was 22 she was busy building a budding singing and recording career in Canada with hopes of heading to the U.S.A. some day. But, she had to drop her career when both of her parents were killed in a head-on crash with a logging truck. Shania returned home to Timmins, Ontario to take care of her two teenaged brothers and settle the financial affairs of her parents and their reforestation business." ( Thanks Cbspock, from the STNAOFC Messageboard !)

Country Music Article on Touring. In the latest issue of Country Music Magazine there is an article titled "Concerts in Crisis" that refers to Shania and her tour. Here below are the paragraphs regarding Shania:
"For others, a new career strategy entirely has taken hold. "There's a pretty good techmique in the pop-music world where artists don't constantly tour", explains veteran agent Ron Baird of Creative Artists Agency, which handles LeAnn Rimes, SHANIA TWAIN and Martina McBride. "They'll tour on a hit record for about two years, then go into the studio to record a new album for a year, year and a half. You only see them on the road every few years. It's not the same style of pacing that the country industry has traditionally employed." SHANIA TWAIN used the pop model to great success. Her decision to delay touring until her second album was a mega-smash prompted much head-scratching. But when her 1999 tour out-distanced that of every other country act out there, Music Row took notice. With plans for her NEXT TOUR tentatively set for 2003, nobody's questioning the strategy. "Now when SHANIA TWAIN comes out," says Baird, "it's going to be a BIG EVENT." ( Thanks Irene, from the STNAOFC Messageboard !)

Timmins FanFest is Top Festival! On April 25, 2002 the official website of the Timmins Daily Press posted an article titled "Timmins, Kap in top festival category" on the Timmins FanFest being named to the list of the Top 50 Festivals in Ontario: "Both Timmins and Kapuskasing have been recognized by the Festivals and Events Ontario Conference in Windsor, as having two of the top 50 festivals in Ontario. Timmins earned its standing after for its very first FanFest held last year. Frank Roch, tourism co-ordinator for Tourism Timmins, said he believes Timmins won the honour because of the Canadian content. "We concentrated our efforts on being a 100 per cent Canadian show," he said. "I think that struck a cord with people who made the decision. "We put together the largest all-Canadian show in the province of Ontario last year."" Click HERE to read the full article! (Thanks Bryce, from the STNAOFC Messageboard !)

Close But...The Columbia flyer has a small article on albums that did not make the #1 spot on the charts. The section "Close but No Cigar" features this time Shania's "Come On Over" which debuted at #2 November 22, 1997. Here is the article write-up: "COME ON OVER - The stunning follow-up to her mega-Platinum breakthrough includes 16 incredible tracks like the smash hits Love Gets Me Every Time and You're Still The One, the tender Bryan White duet From This Moment On and the sparkling rocker Don't Be Stupid. Also Man! I Feel Like A Woman; Honey I'm Home; That Don't Impress Me Much; title track; more. (Mercury) 1997." Click HERE to view the article! (Thanks Steve, from the STNAOFC Messageboard !)

Shania's Early Refusal To Tour.  The country music website countrystars.com has posted a short article on Shania's early refusal to tour after her debut album and the "Woman in Me" success as well. "SHANIA'S EARLY REFUSAL TO TOUR CALCULATED RISK. Back in 1993 after Toby Keith and Shania Twain participated in their label sponsored Triple Play tour (along with John Brannen), Toby told us he was surprised when Shania told him she didn't plan to tour to support her new album. "I was getting ready to tour like I had for years to make some money, so I was surprised that she said she wouldn't be touring," Toby recalls. According to Shania she saw radio, TV and print to be better early options, "This sort of thing, I mean the promotional side of what we do and the publicity side of what we do, it's played a huge role I think in the in my success because there are a lot of people you can't reach through a concert tour unless you're already famous. This is what I believe and this is why I didn't tour right away, Twain told us. "Because until you're famous you really don't get enough people at one time in one place to kind of pass the word on. You know? But when you are doing publicity and promotion whether it's print, radio or television, whatever it happens to be; you're reaching millions of people at one time." (Thanks Talkalot24, from the STNAOFC Messageboard !)

Country Weekly April 30, 2002Country Weekly on Shania's Records! The country music magazine Country Weekly has published a short article titled "Shania Sparkles" on Shania's 19 million copies record. In the April 30th issue, on pg 2, there is also a small pic of Shania with a comment saying "54 million and counting." Here is what the article says: "Shania Twain's COO CD has been certified at 19 million copies sold by the Recording Industry Association of America - a scant million shy of the double diamond designation. (diamond certification is for 10 million records sold) That brings Twain's domestic sales for three albums to 32 million and her worldwide sales to 54 million." Click on the image to the left to read the article! A Huge Thanks to Bryce for the news and to Cbspock for the scan, from the STNAOFC Messageboard !

Close Encounters of the Shania Kind . Neil Haslop's Nashville Update at the music site countrystars.com has now added a short article on Carolyn Dawn Johnson meeting Shania for the first time: "CAROLYN DAWN JOHNSON'S HAPPY CLOSE ENCOUNTERS WITH SHANIA.Canadian Carolyn Dawn Johnson says that Shania Twain inspired her before Shania became a huge star. Johnson met Shania in Canada back in 1995 at a press conference to promote Twain's newly released THE WOMAN IN ME album."She seemed very sweet and we all got to meet her. And I told her I was a singer and she signed my thing for me and I still have it and it says, 'Carolyn Dawn, good luck with your singing...Love, Shania Twain.' And 3 months later I came down to CRS [Country Radio Seminar, in Nashville] saw her in the bathroom and I said, 'I just met you in Vancouver' and she remembered, and that's the last time I've seen her. But it was cool because I got to meet her before she was huge and she was very sweet."  (Thanks Cbspock, from the STNAOFC Messageboard !)

Funny Question on Shania. The music website countrystars.com has posted a new Question of the Day concerning Shania for Neil Haslop's Nashville Update
"Q: Which country superstar once forced a train to stop and drop her off alone in the wilderness?
A: Shania Twain showed she had the "show must go on" spirit when she was just 11 years old. That's when she got on a train by herself to travel to a singing gig. When she realized that she had taken the wrong train and would miss her performance, she demanded that the train stop and let her off smack in the middle of the forest along the way so she could flag down a train going in the opposite direction. The train eventually granted her wish and after a long scary wait, she managed to flag down another train and got to the gig on time."
That incident is on the extra minutes of the VHS tape of the Behind the Music that are not included on the VH1 version, as well as on the TNN Prime Time Country special with Gary. (Thanks Talkalot24, FordW, Bryce and AINAHS from the STNAOFC Messageboard !) Boy these guys really know their Shania stuff! LOL

Shania Rocks the North Sea! The Timmins Daily Press website has published a letter from a Shania fan who is a radio officer on the MODU Britannia in England: it seems that Shania's music is entertaining Shania fans all over the planet! Shania fan Tom Waller works on a Mobile offshore drilling unit, the Global Santa Fe Britannia, and plays the new Shania DVDs aboard: "Since we got the "TV Specials" and the "Platinum Collection" DVDs featuring Shania Twain, they have been played non stop, for over a week now — so much for the image of the big tough "roughneck" oil men...It would appear that Shania's magic, and the promotion of the City of Timmins reaches even to the North Sea oilfields..." "When you listen to Toby Keith, Shania, the [Dixie] Chicks and Vince Gill -- people who write their own songs -- the music is honest," she says. "That's because each song is them. I want more of that." Country Weekly. Way to go JoDee! :) ( Thanks Cbspock, from the STNAOFC Messageboard !)

Shania Sings for Celine! According to a review of Celine Dion's latest album "A New Day Has Come," Shania is singing backup vocals on the track written and produced by Mutt Lange: ""Goodbye's (The Saddest Word), a track written and produced by R.J. "Mutt" Lange and featuring Shania Twain on backing vocals, is the kind of sappy mama-lovin' tune that will leave you nauseous or in tears."
