Sports Illustrated Q&A! The sports magazine "Sports Illustrated" has in the current issue a Q&A with Shania. Here is an exceprt from the questions and answers on music, performance and sports: "SI: You sung at the Grey Cup earlier this year. Is that good preparation for a Super Bowl?
Twain: I guess it would be similar, but I've done so many different types of performances that I just go out and do my thing. The biggest thing about the Super Bowl is that the vibe is going to be so cool. It's a first for me. When you have so many people sitting around eating chili dogs and drinking beer, it's a vibe.
SI: U2 played at halftime of last year's Super Bowl. WIll you ask Bono for any advice on how to play this gig?
Twain: No. I've been performing my whole life. I think I can manage.
SI: Is there any sporting event that you would like to attend that you haven't yet?
Twain: I'd like to see the Olympics live. I've only watched it on television.
SI: Will you stay for the whole Super Bowl?
Twain: I think I will. I love live games. I enjoy sports in person. And I like football. I played a lot of football when I was younger. I'm a good receiver, actually." To read the full interview by Richard Deitsch, go HERE! (Thanks to Cbspock, from the STNAOFC Messageboard!)

"As for Twain, she was more nervous than excited, because the party afforded her a long awaited opportunity to meet her idol, Dolly Parton. 'I've just had Dolly on the brain all night, to be honest,' Twain said as she entered the party and scanned the room for blond." For more on the article and the other new Shania photo, go HERE! New GREAT Review of UP! The magazine "Sound & Vision" has printed a review of UP!: "They may call her the Queen of Country Pop, but now Shania Twain is aiming for global conquest. Up! is a radical and even unprecedented packaging of new material. Each of its 19 perky, pulsing tunes appears in separate country and pop versions, making for a 38-track, double-disc album. The country set favors fiddle, pedal steel, and twangy guitar, whereas the pop set emphazises synths, electronic beats, and a big rock guitar. (Overseas, a disc with a world-music slant replaces the country versions.) The arranger and producer behind this extravaganza is Twain's husband, Robert John "Mutt" Lange. But the singer's zesty vocals, clever turns of phrase, and cool, sassy personality remain the front-and-center attraction." To read the full review, go HERE! (Thanks to Ford, from the STNAOFC Messageboard!)

Shania - Artist Profile. The music website countrynow.com has posted a long artist profile on Shania Twain: "She's Still the One. Shania Twain need not have worried about people forgetting her when she took a hiatus from performing and recording. Her new double-disc set, UP!, has spent its first five weeks in the No. 1 slot on the Billboard 200, selling close to 900,000 copies in the first week alone." Shania to Perform at SUPERBOWL XXXVII! According to TV announcements made on ABC on January 4, Shania Twain will be performing during the Half Time show of the Super Bowl XXXVII on January 26, 2003 in San Diego! 800 million people are expected to be watching the Super Bowl! Thank you BMAC and all the others from the the STNAOFC Messageboard

Shania IS UP! to #2 on the Charts Shania Twain's new album UP! is this week at  #2 on the charts in the US according to Billboard.com. UP! has sold another 263,400 copies during its sixth on the Billboard Charts! UP! remains at #1 on the charts in Canada, selling 69,100 copies this week. Over a six weeks period, UP! has also become the #9 selling album of 2002 in the US with 2.9 million copies sold in the US only!
This is an astonishing result considering what Access Hollywood online article on divas' comebacks states: "Shania Twain did very few interviews, just a handful of magazines and two for TV: Access Hollywood and Katie Couric. Yet, of the four returning divas, she made the biggest splash with Up, her first new album in five years. In its first five weeks alone, it sold a staggering 2.7 million copies. It ended 2002 on top of the charts thanks, in part, to a unique marketing strategy. Up contains two versions of the same disc: one country and one pop." (Thanks windcatcher and Jud, from the STNAOFC Messageboard!)

More Reviews: THE Rolling Stone's one too! Finally the US magazine Rolling Stone has published a review of UP written by Barry Walter! A great review that is: FOUR STARS! "The successor to Come on Over, the biggest-selling album by a female artist of any stripe, Shania Twain's Up! would be a knockout even if it were limited to its one disc of country music. Together with hubby "Mutt" Lange, this crossover firebrand writes wise, personable, wildly contagious songs, and there are nineteen of them here. No duds, and no dull bits.
But the second, relentlessly kinetic pop disc is a revelation. It's the same nineteen songs, but shot through with wacky Abba, Queen, Roxette and Missy Elliott production and arrangement flavors. Whether surrounded by fiddles or synth-y guitar, tracks such as "Thank You Baby!" convey motherly intimacy and an undeniable pop sense alongside those trademark exclamation points." (Thanks Jud, from the STNAOFC Messageboard!)
The Boston Herald has posted another great review of UP! by Larry Katz
titled "Resistance is futile. Shania Twain wants you to listen to her new CD ``Up!'' She insists." The review points out that "Twain sells massive numbers of CDs around the world not because of any gimmickry, but because she offers something that has become a rare commodity in today's overly segmented music scene. She's not a hip-hop, heavy metal, easy listening, hard rock, soft rock, country, alterna-country, adult/contemporary or what-have-you artist. She's a throwback. She recalls a time when there was a place for cheery, tuneful pop acts at the top of the charts." To read the full article, go HERE! (Thanks Cbspock, from the STNAOFC Messageboard!)

Shania's popularity UP! According to an article printed in the Timmins Daily Press on Dec. 27, 2002, Shania Twain's popularity is increasing. The article titled "Shania popularity going Up! up up" states that: "There is no stopping Timmins-own music sensation Shania Twain.
Although many doubted her new CD UP!, released in November, would top her 1997's Come On Over which has sold over 35 million copies worldwide.
But it looks like Timmins' sweetheart is doing it again." To read the full article, click HERE! (Thanks Cbspock, from the STNAOFC Messageboard!)

Shania IS UP! to #1 AGAIN!  Shania Twain's new album UP! remains at #1
for the Christmas Holidays, for the FIFTH week in a row on the Billboard Charts in the US! 455,000 more copies are now added for a GRAND total in the US of
about 2,600,000 copies! Congratulations Shania!
The CD is also doing very well in Canada according to an article in the Timmins Daily Press "Shania Twain's CD Up! is the hottest thing going right now." Joyce Hunter talked with Will Saari of the Shania Twain Centre in Timmins about the success of UP!: ""Her CD was released with both pop and country versions as a single-priced package," he said. "It takes a couple of days to track sales, but she hit No. 1 virtually as soon as her CD came out and has been first for the last three weeks that I'm aware of." Click HERE to read the full article! More Reviews of UP! The Ultimate Music Magazine BLENDER has now posted a review of Shania's #1 album UP! on its website: "No pop star has ever been as crazy about punctuation as Shania Twain is. Although the Canadian-born singer has put exclamation points in song titles before, this time she's fizzier than a high-school girl with a Sharpie and a yearbook. Of the 19 songs on Up!, nine shout their feelings for emphasis, and "Waiter! Bring Me Water!" has two exclamations. OK already! You're back! Feeling great! Looking good! Only three ballads! Your songs aren't just catchy; the high spirits positively conquer all!" R.J. Smith has writtena review titled "With a fizzy new record of not-really-country music, Nashville's crossover queen wants to take you Up! Really!", go HERE to review the full review!
