Bat Out Of Nashville. That's the title of a new CD that is in the works to re-release the highly successful 1977 album "Bat Out Of Hell" by Meatloaf, only this time with a country flavor.  The record's producer, Jim Steinman, is writing two new songs for the CD himself and has a wish list of contributing artists whom he would love to see participate! You're reading about this right now because Shania is on the wish list!  Mr. Steinman's wish list also includes: Garth Brooks, Dwight Yoakam, George Jones, Brooks & Dunn, Willie Nelson, Trisha Yearwood, Clint Black, Wynonna, Alabama, & many others! Shania's Songs. Check this out! Very cool! My good friend Wing did a search at BMI's site and came up with four pages of songs written by Eilleen Regina Lange. (The same results come up if you search under "Shania Twain".) A couple interesting points. 1. Shania uses her married name of "Lange" along with her real name of "Eilleen Regina" when registering her songs with BMI. 2. Check out the song titles. Many of them are similar but slightly different variations of familiar titles such as "That Man of Mine" rather than "Any Man of Mine".  There are a ton of song titles here that are for songs that Shania has never recorded or released! Five Is Just Right. Shania is only the fifth woman in the history of the ACM's to win the Entertainer of the Year award. The others were: Reba McEntire (1994), Barbara Mandrell (1980), Dolly Parton (1977) and Loretta Lynn (1975). Congratulations again Shania! (Thanks Carrie!)

One Is Not Enough. Well, it's gonna have to be enough for now. Shania wrote only one song on Britney Spears' new CD. And she doesn't sing on any of them! Despite the rumors that were flying around the net, the only song that Shania wrote for Britney is "Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know".   (Thanks Wayne!)

Shania Wins! Shania won the ACM Award for Entertainer of the Year! Congratulations Shania! Shania defeated Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, The Dixie Chicks and Sawyer Brown who were the other nominees in the EYOY category. It was great to see the ACM finally give Shania the credit she deserves, especially on a night when Alan Jackson, George Strait and others used the show as a soapbox to deliver not so subtle criticism of Shania and others who have experienced success in and out of country music.  Shania sure has stirred things up in Nashville and I for one love it! ACM's Are Tonight! Tune in to CBS from 8-11pm ET tonight for the ACM Awards! Shania is nominated for two awards (as you probably already know): Female Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year. Shania won't be attending unfortunately and doesn't put much stock in awards anyway, but keep 'em crossed for her anyway! Good luck Shania!

The Fabulous Falls. And now, introducing Shania Twain and The Fabulous Falls!  That's right. According to "Dirt from Nashville" on 94.3 (New York) country radio, Shania's band had a secret name while they toured. They called themselves the "Fabulous Falls" due to the fact that they fell a lot on stage.  (Funny, I saw them three times and they never fell a single time!) (Thanks Chris!)

Press For Shania! The July, 2000 issue (getting a little bit ahead of the calendar here aren't we?) of Country Song Roundup has an article entitled: "Shania Twain: As Good As It Gets" by Margy Holland. ....Reba is a big deal, not only to her fans, but her peers as well. When Shania Twain picked up the 1999 Entertainer of the Year Award from the CMA, she mentioned the honor of getting such an award from Reba. Reba felt the same way about handing the award to Shania. "Thrilled to death, tickled to pieces," beams Reba. "I was so grateful that I was the one to present her with the award. The last female that won was me, in 1986. To present that trophy to the next female Entertainer of the Year, Shania Twain, was a huge thrill for me. I was thrilled to death."

Reba hopes to extend her relationship with Twain someday to include a duet. "I'd love to do a duet with Shania," McEntire confesses. "I've already done one with Martina, Trisha and Linda. Launch.com has an article in which Faith Hill (in the UK to promote "Breathe") remembers to give some credit to Shania Twain and others who have paved the way for country artists to promote their music internationally. Shania Is Over The Top. That's the title of an article in the May 2, 2000 issue of Country Weekly magazine. The article talks about Shania selling 17 million copies of Come On Over . Shania is among many other country music stars who have donated items to raise money for Leukemia & Lymphoma research.  Shania's guitar is among a variety of autographed items to be auctioned in conjunction with the inaugural Country Music Marathon(TM) scheduled April 29th in Nashville.  The online auction, powered by Bidland.com, will run between April 21 and May 5. Latin Rhythms. Shania's re-made and re-released video of "Don't Be Stupid (You Know I Love You)" is #15 on MTV Latin America this week! (Thanks Marco!)

Right now, she's running a distant second to Faith Hill for Female Vocalist and a bit closer to Faith in the Entertainer of the Year category.  You can vote as often as you like, so vote like crazy! Bummer.  Country radio stations are reporting that Shania will not be at the ACM awards.  They also mentioned that the big country festival in Europe, is in Switzerland this year.  Reba McIntyre, Dolly Parton and JoDee Messina will be there.  Shania will not be attending.  Jim Kerr said, "It looks like Shania is in hibernation in her Swiss palace...".   Maybe she'll invite Dolly to the chateau? Lonestar Thanks Shania.  There is an article on Launch.com's site in which the lead singer of the Country group Lonestar thanks Shania. Shania Nominated For Awards.  Shania received a total of 4 nominations for the "Novello" awards.  The award, named after Ivor Novello, is given for best song musically and lyrically. Vive la France! Universal ran an advertisement campaign in France in response to France's tax of 20.6% (the highest in the EU) on CDs. When the government decided to reduce the tax by only 1%, Universal stepped in and offered a 5.5% reduction in the VAT from March 24 until April 2.  Which CD was the top seller during the "sale"? Shania Wins Tournament of Babes! As expected Shania defeated Ashley Judd in the "just for fun" Tournament of Babes at http://www.wfnz.com/ .  That means that Shania was voted the most beautiful woman in every category of entertainment! Congratulations Shania! Oh, and Ashley...you did come in second! (Thanks Wing!)

Oh Elton! How Could You? In a not-so-subtle way, one of Shania's idols took a shot at her in the press recently.  Elton, was asked his "advice" to upcoming acts on how to sustain a long, successful career in the music business. Along with offering his "advice," Elton also took the opportunity to pretty much diss Shania in the press. Here's what Elton had to say: " Open the airwaves. Radio's restricted formats and short playlists hurt both those played and unplayed. "I turn on the pop station and hear an 8 month old Matchbox 20 song. So the album sells 15 million copies, but how can acts follow it? It's a millstone around an artist's neck. Look at Alanis Morissette or Hootie & the Blowfish. Aren't people sick of Shania Twain? How many singles can they squeeze out of this album? I really feel it hurts artists to be this overexposed."  I think Elton intentions were good here, but he certainly could have chosen his words much more carefully in my humble opinion. - bmac  Read the article. Oops! I Did It Again! According to a popular Britney Spears site, in addition to "Oops! I Did It Again!", there is a track that Shania sings either backup or a duet with Britney Spears on her new CD. Road Show. We're really reaching for news here! A controversial billboard featuring a fat guy in a Shania-like leopard skin outfit with his belly exposed is causing a stir among some folks. You see, sister radio stations ran promos on the billboards. One features Shania; the other features the, well, anti-Shania, for lack of a better word. Even more offensive is the fact that the billboard with the fat guy has the words "Spank Me!" plastered on it. All in good fun says the station management with no intention of offending anyone. Dolly Parton To Host ACMs! It has been officially announced that Dolly Parton will host the upcoming ACM Awards on May 3, 2000! One has to wonder if this means that Shania has won Entertainer of the Year (one of the awards she is nominated for...the other is the Female Vocalist of the Year). Is the Academy of Country Music "dangling a carrot" in front of Shania's eyes to get her to attend? Of course, Shania stated that Dolly is her idol right after winning the CMA Entertainer of the Year award last year. Hmmm. Well, we'll just have to wait and see. I just learned that Shania has beaten out Tiffany Amber-Thiessen in the "just for fun" WFNZ Tournament of Babes and is now squared off against Ashley Judd in the Championship! Trisha Yearwood Shows Support For Shania.    Trisha had this to say about Shania recently: "Shania Twain gets trashed for what she does, but she's true to herself. I have so much more respect for that than for someone who tries to recreate that."   She goes on to say, "If you make an album that's pop because that's who you are and who you want to be, then cool. I respect (Shania Twain) for making the music she wants to make. It's different from the music I want to make. Nashville Points Finger At Shania. The recent article in Country Weekly about Country vs. Pop, and now an article in the Ottawa Citizen , point the finger squarely at Shania Twain and blame her for killing country music.  The purists blame Shania and many other current performers for killing the pure sound of country music and bringing in pop influences. Besides Shania, recent songs by Faith Hill, Martina McBride and Lonestar have enjoyed considerable pop success.  This, of course, has resulted in increased record sales among the normally "non-country" music, pop record buyers.  Besides the online article in the Ottawa Citizen, this article ( click to read it ) appeared in print, but not on their webpage. She Gets Around. Well, you didn't think Shania was just going to stay home for all of 2000, did you? Reports from reputable sources in Las Vegas say that Shania was spied recently while shopping at a very upscale Vegas store. Picking out clothing for her next video? Maybe ideas for next tour outfits, award shows? We can only speculate at this time what Shania was doing in Las Vegas. (Thanks Terry!) 

Canadian Walk-Of-Fame. And Shania is not on it, nor will she be on it anytime soon! What? The rules state that, even though Shania was the runaway choice in fan balloting to be added to the Walk, an entertainer must have 10 years in show business and a body of work to qualify. Shania Centre Plans Unveiled. The Timmins Press has a great article detailing some of the plans for the new Shania Twain Interpretive Centre to be built in Timmins.  Work on the $11-million project has already started and is expected to be completed by July 2001, said Barry Martin of B.H. Martin Consultants. The interpretive centre includes a 4,000-square-foot exhibit space featuring Twain, a 1,200-square-foot travelling exhibit space and a 1,000-square-foot retail area, as well as a 1,500-square-foot foyer area. Legend In Leopard Print. This is a very interesting article about Shania and her success. It's not all positive; it's not all negative. I found it interesting how the writer kept zeroing in on Shania's wardrobe and how she can get away with wearing clothes that most women her age could definitely not even think about wearing! Country vs. Pop. Shania is on the cover (along with Alan Jackson) of this week's Country Weekly magazine. The article, as you would suspect, talks about the success that Shania has experienced compared to that of more "traditional" country acts. Shania not surprisingly defends the pop infusion saying, "It's really cool to see that both audiences are enjoying what I'm doing." Faith Hill adds, "I just think great music should be universal." Some Shania For You. One of the great things about Shania is her humble attitude as illustrated by a few quotes. Shania, of course, has sold over 24 million CD's worldwide, but had this to say about it: "The more famous I get, the more I want to do my own laundry."  She's a beautiful woman, she's been signed by Revlon to represent them, but yet had this to say: "I'm not Cindy Crawford, but I'm a singer who can look O.K. in makeup."

17 Million Certified! Come On Ove r has been certified for sales of 17 million units in the US! This is a very significant achievement for Shania as it moves her past Alanis Morrisette's Jagged Little Pill for best selling album by a female artist all time! Also, Come On Over, is now the best selling country album in history, with Shania overtaking Garth Brooks' No Fences album. And Another Thing. Just in case Randy Lewis of the LA Times is reading this, the numbers from your pitiful article were incorrect. You quoted COO's sales at 12 million. As you can see, you were slightly off as COO is now the best selling album by a female artist in history with sales of 17 million (26 million worldwide). And, as for country music, Shania winning those two Grammys that bothered you so much and this latest sales achievement....get used to it! Shania is now the best selling country artist in history. I just wanted to clear that up. Thanks.

No Shania? Better double-check your data Cosmopolitan! In a recent poll that asked the "Hottest Woman", Shania didn't even make the list! Madonna was picked by the readers of the magazine as the "Hottest Woman". Britney Spears made the list at number 13 or something like that. No Shania? You gotta be kidding! Read the article. Shania and Faith Hill Duet? It's not out of the question...at least from Faith Hill's perspective. Faith Hill's favorite duet partner is hubby Tim McGraw, but she says there are at least three other stars she'd consider recording with. Hot, Hot, Hot! The re-release of The Woman In Me in the UK, is off to a scorching start! According to http://www.dotmusic.com/charts/top75albums.asp , the country album is in the Top Ten of all albums sold in the UK right now! That puts TWO Shania albums in the Top Ten in the UK at this time! (Thanks Peter!)

Everything Shania. It's not just one of the best Shania Twain sites on the Internet, it was also the name of one of the categories on Rock 'n Roll Jeopardy (Celebrity Version) this past weekend! If you missed it, some of the answers were: 1. "Shania was the first country female to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone since this blonde bombshell in 1980."  2. "It was Shania's given name when she was born in Timmins, Ontario in 1965". 3. She was also a Video Daily Double, with a clip from "That Don't Impress Me Much" video being shown in reference to this answer: "Shania turned a lot of heads with this video seen here".  (Thanks Doolah, Wing!)

Shania Wins At The Junos! Shania took home the awards for Best Female Country Artist and Best Songwriter. Shania has Won Best Country Female Artist at the Junos every year since 1996.  This is the first time in her Career that Shania was named Best Songwriter (for That Don't Impress Me Much, You've Got A Way, & Man! UK News. Shania's first album to be re-released. On March 13th, Shania's debut album entitled    Shania Twain.  Also being released on video on March 13th, is the 1998 "Party In The Park" concert video which features Shania singing "Man! Shania On The Cover. This magazine cover popped up on ebay recently. It's a Swiss magazine and our favorite lady is on the cover. This issue is for March 2000. I'll try to get info on where you might be able to purchase it. (Thanks Joann!)

Old Married Folks Don't. With all the rumors flying around recently about Shania's involvement in a cult that promotes, among other things, a "no sex" policy...canoe.ca has a short mention about it that is worth reading. It puts a humorous spin on th subject of sex and marriage. Liz Braun writes, "IDLE RUMOURS: (1) Shania Twain has joined some weird cult where no sex is involved! Yes! It's called marriage!" Shania, I'm Broke. Well people, comedian Cledus T. Judd has copied another of Shania's songs. "Shania, I'm Broke" is his new single and the video has aired on Wednesday on the CMT Delivery Room. The song imitates "Honey, Im Home" and the video some what tries to imitate Shania's "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!" video. There are also guys in the video the look like Shania's drummer and other of her band members. It's a great song and video to laugh at. Catch the video anytime on CMT. New Shania DVD? Universal Music is coming out with a new Shania DVD. At least we think it's new. The early press about the DVD is ambiguous at this time. It's being called a compilation. To Heck With The Statue! The guys in Sawyer Brown are thrilled and amazed to be up for the Academy of Country Music's biggest award, Entertainer of the Year. Sawyer Brown actually scored two A-C-M nominations. Keyboardist Hobie Hubbard says they weren't expecting to be in any category, let alone the big one. Hubbard isn't forecasting their chances of taking home a Hat Award. But he does have one hopeful question. Since they're nominated in the same category as Shania Twain, does that mean they'll get to sit next to her? He laughs 'That would be award enough in and of itself!' She's Doing All Right. Forbes magazine recently released their list of the Top 100 list of Celebrity money makers of 1999. Several factors go into the rankings of the celebrities on this list. Money made during the year (1999), the number of cover stories that a particular celebrity receives/is on, the number of times that he/she is featured in the news, & things like that are all factors for the rankings in this list. Out of 100 Celebrities--which include Tom Hanks, Michael Jordan, George Lucas (the Star Wars creator)--Shania is ranked at # 12! Shania Wins! Shania Twain was named performer of the year and Tim McGraw's A Place in the Sun was honored as best album in Radio & Records annual readers poll. Results were released in the March 3 issue of the radio and music industry trade publication.The magazine polled around 1,000 representatives from radio stations monitored for airplay. 2000 Brit Awards. The Notting Hill Soundtrack won a Brit Award yesterday for Best Soundtrack. Of course, Shania's song "You've Got A Way" is part of the soundtrack and was also nominated for a Grammy for Song of the Year. Read the article . (Thanks Carrie!)

Shania Is An Icon. According to an article that appeared in The Tennessean, Shania is included in a small group of Country stars who have crossed over to Pop music successfully and are considered "icons" of the industry. Shania in Playboy. Works every time! Got your attention! No, really, Shania was voted the Top Female Country Artist in the 2000 Playboy Music Poll. This very cool impressionistic image of her appeared along with some of the other winners. (Of course, I only read Playboy for the articles!)

Some Perspective. Did you know Come On Over is now the 7th best selling album in British history? This is phenomenal when you consider the likes of British bands like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin are the "yard stick" that COO is being measured against! During the 60's and 70's when those groups ruled the world, you would have thought that no one would ever come close to matching their sales records, but Shania is doing it right now. Rhinestone Cowboy Loves Shania! Glen Campbell, one of the legends of Country music and a crossover artist himself back in the 1960's and 70's, appeared on the Donny & Marie Show yesterday. He was asked what he thinks of the crossover artists of today. His response: "It's hard to keep the songs going. Shania, I think, kept them going on probably as many albums as anybody in the business because her & Mutt wrote.......I Love Shania . I think she's marvelous, man, what she's done with her career & how many albums she's sold." He then said: "...SHANIA SOLD 100 MILLION ALBUMS!!!!!!" At which the crowd erupted in a huge applause! Radio Shania. My good friend Peter Lovell (webmaster at Shania Twain's Wallpaper World) has established his own Shania Radio program! DJ Shov plays Shania 24/7 365 days a year. The Formula Works. I'm Liking SHeDAISY more all the time. I read this today at Country Weekly Online : Meanwhile, the sisters are taking a page from Shania Twain by holding back from a full-scale national tour until they're ready. "We want to tour but we feel similar to Shania in the sense that we want to be able to do a whole set of our own songs," explains Kristyn, the group's songwriter. "We don't want to have to do cover songs. We can spend the time making the Christmas album and I can spend more time writing."

Heard It Through The Grapevine. As we reported earlier, Shania has written and produced a song for the upcoming new Britney Spears album. Shania Stuff. On page 55 of the current issue of Entertainment Weekly, there is a small photo of Shania at the bottom of the page. (Photos of Leo DiCaprio, Julia Roberts, Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Sandra Bullock, & Mel Gibson are all on the cover of the issue)! The date of the issue is March 3, 2000!

Along with the photo of Shania, there are a couple of small articles that talk about Shania's Behind the Music special. Here are the articles:"Is it just us, or is the Shania Twain episode on twice a day? It's on every two hours, jokes Gaspin of the ubiquitous segment, which holds the rerun title at 73 times. Madonna is a close second with 63 airings, while Cher comes in third with a grand total of 34 showings to date."

Shania Wins Again! "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!" won the Grammy for Best Country Female Vocal! Shania beat out Faith Hill, Allison Krause and Martina McBride for the award! So Shania takes home two Grammys this year! Congratulations Shania and Mutt!

Shania Wins! "Come On Over" has won the Grammy for Best Country Song! Evidently, the category is one that was awarded in pre-broadcast ceremonies, but who cares! Shania and Mutt won! Congratulations! Read the list of winners.

Grammys Are Tonight! Don't forget to tune in to the Grammy Awards tonight at 8 PM EST on CBS! Shania is nominated in three categories: Song of the Year, Best Country Female Vocal Performance and Best Country Song.   Shania is reported as being a non-attendee for tonight's festivities.   Hopefully, the reports are wrong and she'll show up! Anyway, keep your fingers crossed that Shania takes home a Grammy or two!

Faith Defends Shania. "I've been in many arguments about Shania," Hill said during a phone interview from Nashville. "What used to really make me angry was what people said about her. Candid Shania. A great interview with Shania had eluded my radar until U.S. Fan Club member, Rocko, pointed it out in the Fan Club Messageboard. The interview dates from last year and was done by The Mirror (a UK-based newspaper). In the interview, Shania talks about the death of her parents, her marriage to Mutt and many other subjects. Richard Gervais, a 50-year-old general contractor from Vermont, drove all the way here (Timmins, Ontario, Canada) on his snowmobile simply because Timmins is the hometown of his favourite country music star, Shania Twain. Home Sweet Home. Shania is settling in to her new home in Switzerland. Twain told her handlers that she was taking a year-long break from her fame and is apparently sticking to her story. Fan Of The Week. That honor has to go to Desiree Pitts of Front Royal, VA for the letter she wrote in response to Shania not being named a nominee in any country category at the Billboard Music Awards. This appeared in the February 22, 2000 issue of Country Weekly: 

I was extremely disappointed at the outcome of the Billboard Music Awards. The thing that made me most upset was that Shania wasn't nominated in any country categories! This makes no sense; Come On Over has been No. 1 on the Country Albums chart for much of the year, and has remained in the Top 5 for the entire year. Another thing - 18 million people tuned in to watch her Thanksgiving special. Shania should have been nominated in at least one country category. Shania has brought millions of new listeners to country music. If it wasn't for her, I would not be listening to country and I would have never subscribed to this kind of magazine. She deserves to get credit for what she has done. In the case of the Billboard Music Awards, credit was not given where it was due.

SHeDAISY's Success. Also in the current issue of Country Weekly, the all-girl, all-sisters trio is asked about their success: "I don't think the (Dixie) Chicks have opened any doors for us," explains Kelsi. Sneak Peek. In Country Song Roundup magazine, Shania gives us a glimpse at what her next CD may be like. Shania and "Mutt" have been working on a brand new album that Shania says will include songs that are more introspective. Some will be about the extremes in her life that we can all relate to. Shania had this to say: "I think I've gotten a better idea now of the extremes in life and I will be able to be even more frank than ever in the song writing for the next Album.
