Unfortunately, Shania didn't receive a single nomination for this year's awards (to be broadcast October 4, 2000 on CBS). Don't jump to conclusions when we tell you that the September issue ofPenthouse
magazine contains photos of Shania Twain, Faith Hill and the DixieChicks.
There are no revealing photos whatsoever, despite the fact that thefeature
story on country music arrives with the headline, "Nashville
Nymphs." Martina McBride and Mindy McCready are among the artists includedin
the story which center around the growing popularity of female countrysingers.
For those stars, the common bond is a desire to take control oftheir own careers.
Explaining her approach to recording, Martina says, "Ihave to be there for
every part of the production. The artist should try toenhance the record
by giving some input. I like to be able to talk intelligently
about an album, and how can I do that if I'm not there?" Martina adds,
"I feel like the music the women record is more personal andthey have more
of themselves invested in it than the men." Shania and Faithboth serve as
spokespersons for major cosmetics companies, but they don'tnecessarily attach
any importance to their looks. Faith explains, "being sotall, I felt very
clumsy and lanky as a kid. I still don't think I'm any bigdeal. I mean, not
at all." Shania admits that her feelings get hurt whenpeople say derogatory
things about her wardrobe, her husband and -- aboveall -- her talents as
a singer and songwriter. However, she admits, "Youhave to develop a certain
kind of sense of humor and let a lot of thingsroll off your back. You have
to persevere and have a lot of energy and a lotof patience, and, I think
most of all a lot of drive. And you know what? Alittle bit of attitude doesn't

Not So Very Merry
Christmas After All. Yesterday we passed along a report that Shania's
Christmas album might still be on the books at Mercury
and that a TV Special is in the works to support it.
But, Mercury was emphatic in saying that the album is not planned for
this year and they have no knowledge of the reported CBS

A VERY MERRY
CHRISTMAS FOR SHANIA FANS! Shania is planning another CBS Special, this
time to help promote the release of her Christmas album. Word is that the
special will be airing on CBS. The Christmas special will have celebrity
guests, music from Shania's Christmas album, and Christmas standards. Rumors
are flying that the special will be taped in Shania's hometown of Timmins,
Ontario; and that her family will be included in the special.
Shania said, "There's also a Christmas special that I'm
putting together. I have a lot of work ahead of me in the next few months."

Shania Among the Greatest. VH1 Salutes The '100 Greatest Rock & Roll Moments on TV' In Five-Hour, Five-Night Special, Premiering July 31-August 4 at 10:00 p.m. (ET/PT). Shania's is featured as #99 of the 100 greatest Rock & Roll moments on TV. I can only assume that they are referring to her 1999 Grammy performance of "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!". Magazine Cover! Shania appears on the cover of the Portuguese version
of Cosmopolitan magazine. The issue is dated July 2000 and also includes

Don't know how authoritative the article is at this time. The article only mentions "Mercury" (Shania's label), but does not specifically mention Shania. Donations From Shania. Backstreet Boy Howie D. raised over $100,000 at
his Lupus 2000 benefit held Sunday night at Universal
Studios in Orlando. The event benefited the Lupus
Foundation and its ongoing research of the chronic autoimmune disorder whichclaimed
the life of Howie's sister, Caroline Dorough, who died of the
disease in 1998. Howie enlisted the help of his Backstreet buddy A.J. McLeanat
the benefit, as the two debuted on a cover of the Commodores' "BrickHouse."
New Single!
It's been awhile since we were able to say this, but don't look now...Shania's
got a new single that debuted at #66 on the Hot Country Singles & Tracks
charts! The single is "I'm Holdin' On To Love (To Save My Life)" and so far
it looks as though it's a "radio" only single...probably not to be released
to retail sales. Anyway, call and request "IHOTL(TSML)" and let's help

former Reform Party. And what was Stockwell Day's theme song? Shania's "Rock
This Country", that's what! Of course, here in the US, Al Gore has

In the latest issue of Country Weekly (I know...I said I wouldn't buy CW anymore...I lied.), Shania reveals her "dark side". Remember Shania's revealing episode of VH-1's "Behind The Music" special last year? In the show filmed in Shania's hometown of Timmins, Ontario, Canada, the scenes with her sisters and brothers talking about their sister seemed natural and loving as they discussed their common experience of a hard life in the Canadian wilderness. Well, according the producer-director of the show, Janice Engel, everything you saw was for real. Engel noted that during the shoot Shania was casual, without makeup and natural when she wasn't being filmed. Plus she politely asked to hang out while her siblings were being interviewed. Engle described this gathering as typical of the visit home, "It was probably this easy-going atmosphere between the VH1 film crew and Shania and her family that set the stage for us to film Shania with her brothers, sister and niece, squished together on a couch following her concert later that same evening. They all came in, plopped down on one couch and started talking unabashedly about their sister, Eilleen Twain, and what it was like growing up dirt poor in Timmins, Ontario. It won't be quite as merry for Shania fans this year. According to reports, Shania's Christmas CD has been cancelled. Why? Not so much Shania's schedule, but Mutt's busy schedule writing songs for Shania's next major CD and producing other groups such as the Coors. Mercury has cancelled the Shania Christmas Album. Mutt felt that all of his and Shania's effort should be put toward her next country album so that project won't suffer due to splitting time between two albums. More info as soon as I get it. Sorry to bum you out like this. (Thanks Chris!) CW Snub. Well, the new issue of Country Weekly is out. The cover story is the 25 sexiest stars in Country. And who is #1 and the cover girl? Is it the woman who revolutionized Country videos, and is well-known for bringing sexiness to Country Music? Nope. According to CW, Country's sexiest star is Faith Hill. Accordingly, Faith gets the cover and a full-page picture, (along with a gushing description). Shania, as befitting her also-ran status, gets a tiny picture at the bottom of the page, and about a third of a page inside.
