After being ravaged by the tabloids for the last 5 years, Shania must be shaking her head at the recent nice things they've been saying about her. In this week's Billboard issue there is a picture taken at what looks like a Mercury Nashville party for COO: it looks like Shania got into Nashville a little early. It is in a ballroom, and the people in the photo are about to sit down at a table. Shania looks beautiful, of course. Hair loosely falling to her shoulders, she's in light colored sweater (the photo is b/w) sleeves pushed up, and dark slacks. Caption reads: "During Country Music Week, Mercury Nashville celebrated the success of Shania Twain's "Come On Over" album, which has sold more than 17 million units domestically and 30 million worldwide, pushing Twain's total album sales to more than 50 million globally. She likes to sing but she loves songwriting. Although she said she wanted to be here to present the Entertainer of the Year, which went to the Dixie Chicks, she also picked up three Country Music awards for her songwriting at the BMI Awards on Tuesday, October 3. Since she did not go to New York when she was named Pop Songwriter of the Year earlier in 2000, just maybe she prefers loyal Country fans and Country awards. Shania says she does miss the fans. She said this past six months is the first time in her life since she was 10 years old that she didn't sing, but added, she need time off from the long tour. Said it was fun getting to know her husband again. Recently, she has been in the studio in Switzerland with husband/producer/co-writer Mutt Lange recording her next album, and while she was here, Shania told me Mutt was working on the tracks. She added she couldn't wait to get back to hear what he'd done. Shania says she's very much at home in Switzerland. Remember, she is Canadian and said Europe reminds her of Canada. Guinness Book of World Records 2001. The Guinness Book of World Records 2001 is in bookstore now, it lists "Come On Over" of Shania as the top selling country album, which replaced "No Fences of Garth Brooks. (Thanks Wing, from the STNAOFC Messageboard!) Shania: Big $ On Ebay. Billboard has an article on the growing practice of radio personnel selling promotional copies of CDs on Ebay. It may not be ethical, but it is becoming a booming business for radio people. Shania is one of the hottest sellers. 26 items up for bid at the time of the article; 50 last month. Biggest sellers: a 1994 Mercury Nashville promo disc, featuring Shania & Toby Keith, went for $400; a CD single of "Home Ain't Where His Heart Is Anymore" brought in $405, and a CD single of "(If You're Not In It For Love) I'm Outta Here" sold for $150. With no offense at all to Shania Twain, I would like [Brooks' 1990 album] "No Fences" to be the largest-selling country album of all time. No New House in River Falls. According to an interview posted at countrystars.com, Shania has strongly denied that she is building a house in River Falls. It seems the rumour was started by a local radio. Shania also talks about the next tour to promote her future release and about fans' support! "SHANIA WILL TOUR AFTER COMPLETING NEW ALBUM Shania Twain returned to the U.S. to present the Entertainer of the Year Award. Backstage at the CMA Awards she said she's still working hard on the new album but doesn't know when it will be released. New Confirmations about Shania's New House. The news is now spreading. countrystars.com has posted the news about Shania building a house in River Falls: "SHANIA BREAKS GROUND ON NEW HOME IN U.S.A. In case you hadn't heard, Shania Twain and Mutt Lange are building a home near River Falls, Wisconsin close to the border with Minnesota. The location was chosen apparently because it's mid continent (helpful during a major North American tour), and near her homeland. Twain has residences in Florida and Switzerland and has expressed an interest in acquiring a rustic, cabin-style hideaway somewhere in the Canadian wilderness." They mentioned the story too on 94.3 radio station in NY. They said that Mutt and Shania plan to live there when the new album comes out so she is close to home [Timmins], and all the major cities of the US when she starts the promo and tour for the new album. They said she got too stressed out on her first tour, and she was headed for a meltdown by the time the tour ended. She will also be able to spend more time at 'home' with Mutt during the next tour. Shania in Sophisticate's Hairstyle Magazine. There is a Nice photo of Shania (& a Small article) in the NEW, DECEMBER, 2000 issue of SOPHISTICATE'S HAIRSTYLE magazine (Jennifer Aniston from Friends is on the Cover of the issue). The photo & Small article are on PAGE 46 of the issue.The photo appears to be new. It looks like it was taken last year sometime, but I don't know if it's ever been released. The photo is kind of hard to describe, but I guess I'll try. In the photo, the Background is Completely, Solid Pink. Shania is wearing a sleeveless LIGHT Pink turtleneck blouse with what appears to be a Solid White skirt. Shania's hair is blown in the photo & she's sitting on the pink colored ground. Shania's Right Hand is in front of her Left hand. The odd thing is that all of Shania's wedding jewelry (her big wedding ring & stuff) is on her RIGHT hand in the photo. Anyway, it's a nice photo. The small article IS quite small & does NOT talk about Shania like a normal article would. The small article just talks about how you can get hair like Shania's. HERE is what the article says: Shania Twain Layers, layers everywhere---and every one of them oh-so pretty! Shania works her layers into tousled volume for a fabulous finish (you want it, you know it!). Below-the-shoulder tresses are snipped in layers that begin just below the chin. New issue of CMT magazine has an interview with Kenny Rogers, who is a great photographer and has published a number of photo books. Working on a book of Country Music stars. It will contain classic Country photos of people like Tammy Wynette, and he wants modern artists, too. Has already approached Faith & Tim, but said the one he wants most is Shania. Said he'd love to photgraph her. Kenny said she's always been friendly toward him, but he really doesn't know her, and doesn't know how to approach her on that.
