Shania Centre NOT MOVING. The city of Timmins council has rejected the petition presented by Perry Rinaldo to stop construction at the Shania Interpretive Centre: it is staying put at the Gold Mine Tour Cite. Also because: "Schumacher has what no other location in the city has, and that's the McIntyre Headframe," Mayor-elect Lim told Rinaldo. "But I think it's too late to put the brakes on it (project)." Shania Wins Big At SOCAN Awards! Last night Shania and her husband Mutt Lange received 5 SOCAN Awards for 5 songs they co-wrote on "Come On Over:" From This Moment On, Man! I Feel Like A Woman, That Don't Impress Me Much, You're Still The One and You've Got A Way. Alabama Compliments Shania's Charity Work. On November 17, on y107 Music News, Alabama group member Randy Owens, said he met Shania last month at an awards banquet. He said the biggest trill was getting to talk with her. He even had his son get a picture with her. Alabama won the Minnie Pearl Humanitarian award for their charity work. He mentioned all the work Shania has done both public and private for hungury children. He also mentioned that she is a great person. We could not agree more! (Thanks Cbspock!)

Centre Creator Speaks out. Georges Quirion, the project architect for the Shania Centre, who met with Twain last summer to get her input on the centre, is a little disappointed. Mais OUI! Shania Wins M6 Award! Last Friday the 2000 M6 Awards took place in France, for those who don't know M6 is a French TV station. Shania won the "Best International Female Vocalist Of The Year" award and although she did not attend the show personally, she did record a message in French for the fans who voted for her: "Bonjour, je ne parle pas tres bien le francais, mais, j'aimerais le faire quand meme. Donc, heu excusez mes erreurs s'il vous plait. Je remercie M6 Awards, heu., ma maison de disque et tout, heu.., specialement les fans". (Translation: "Good Morning, I do not speak French very well, although I would really be able to. So, please excuse my mistakes. SPEAKING FRENCH. From countrycool.com: "Yes, Shania Twain is studying French but says she isn't nearly as fluent as her husband. "French is the greatest language," the singer said. Living in  Switzerland, Shania saw the need to learn the language. "I still don't speak it very well," she admitted. "I'm learning it and enjoying it," she smiled. "And Mutt is quite fluent now. I'm so proud of him. This is a guy who a year-and-a-half ago barely know oui (yes) or non (no). That's all he knows. Now he can hold a total conversation. Yes, I am so proud of him," she

Jo Dee Supports Shania. Shania is a fan of Jo Dee. Looks like it's mutual. 
From Country Music magazine:  Jo Dee Messina: "As far as getting the music heard by other people, I don't see that there's anything wrong with that. I'm a huge fan of Shania Twain. Some 14-year-old in Michigan listens to Shania Twain and listens to Pop radio. One day, she's driving down the street with her mother and hears 'Honey, I'm Home', and stops the radio on that channel. IT'S AUGUST! IT'S AUGUST! According to countrystars.com: "SHANIA'S ALBUM SLATED FOR LATE SUMMER 2001 RELEASE. We've learned that Shania Twain's new album is slated for an August 2001 release. If that date holds up, it could indicate a new Twain single as early as this Spring. Plus, since Shania says she plans to support the album with a new tour, she could possibly begin one late next year and continue it through 2001. If this all comes to pass that could be one of the most important events of the year and beyond for the format." Shania Fans start thinking about how to celebrate Shania's next release! Shania Centre To Move? According to today's article in the Timmins Daily Press, there have been talks about the possibility of moving the Shania Twain Interpretive Center from Timmins to Schumacher. For the moment, construction is going on as planned at the original site, because this is the best spot according to several consultants contacted for the project. Best news of all: "With contracts signed, the centre has moved forward to the point where the foundation has been constructed to allow the opening to occur July 1, 2001 with Twain present." Country Music On Shania. In the October/November issue of Country Music, there were few pages dedicated to the 25 songs that shaped country. Shania's AMOM song was among the list. Click HERE to view photo and very short write up with it! Also in the same magazine under letters to the editor a letter was sent by a Robin E. Duff. Shania wasn't mentioned but there was a picture of her along side of Patsy Cline. The Letter reads: "I enjoy reading your magazine, but am a little frustrated by the many disdainful comments about country songs crossing over to pop. This is not a new phenomenon. I can't name the first country artist who got airplay on another format, but several names come to mind: Dolly , Kenny, Patsy, Willie, etc. I'm sure this is not the decision of the artist and should not be taken out on them. Nor is it solely the fault of radio or the labels. The public must assume some of the accountability since they are buying the records and reinforcing the labels' belief that this is what the public wants. Radio stations play it because the product is selling, and therefore people must want to hear it. I love traditional country music and own an extensive collection of it on compact disc. I appreciate the efforts of some artists who "keep it country." I'm thankful that I can turn off my radio when there's something I don't want to hear and play a CD of songs I do want to hear. More people should exercise that option and quit complaining. If we all put our money where our mouth is and start buying traditional country music, it would certainly send a message to Nashville. Beginning the January 10, she and Mutt will go on another European trek for a couple of weeks, but the rest of the time she'll be home. Shania anxiously awaits her 'first friends' in Music Town to visit. "Out of my living room window, the view is breathtakingly beautiful with a view of the Alps and Lake Geneva," the singer explained. VH1 Jeopardy Shania Category. The Jeopardy show on VH1 had a category on Everything Shania! (like the website www.shania.nu of Terry!), where contestants were asked to state the title of Shania's song "That Don't Impress Me Much" by watching at the video, and to reveal Shania's real name! Lisa Angelle And Shania. A singer/songwriter named Lisa Angelle just came out w/ her FIRST album (she has written songs for years, but this is her first singing effort). Well, Lisa was recently talking about her debut album in an interview & she mentioned Shania & Mutt. Lisa described Shania has having "a lot of emotion" & as an "opinionated" songwriter. Shania's "I'm Holding On To Love" Success. A Country Music news site called "Country Music for the Fans" has a SMALL article that talks about the recent Top 20 success of Shania's latest single, "I'm Holdin' Onto Love (To Save My Life)!": "Shania Twain's latest single "I'm Holding On To Love (To Save My Life)" just broke into the Top 20 on the country charts this week. The interesting fact about this particular song is that it's the 11th release off of Shania's 1997 album, Come On Over. Shania is currently working on a new album." (Thanks Carrie!) 

Spanish Version "You're Still The One." As announced a while ago, there is now a Spanish version of "You're Still The One." This is what CountryStars.com says about it: "YOU'RE STILL THE UNO?" SHANIA TUNE IN ESPANOL. Not long ago we were driving down an L.A. freeway and heard the familiar licks of Shania Twain's "You're Still the One" coming from one of the local Spanish language stations. "Caramba, Shania has even crossed over to the Spanish market! Si?" No, as it turned out. When the vocal hit, it was a guy named Rogelio (Row-hell'-ee-oh) Martinez (Mar-teen'-ehz) whose not-nearly-as-lushly produced version of "You're Still the One" has turned into a Latin Top 10 hit." Another Shania Video Platinum! Some of you might already know this by now, but the "Divas Live!" video from 1998--which featured SHANIA's performance on that show, has gone Gold & Platinum Simultaneously. Shania Centre Groundbreaking! Work has begun on Timmins' new Shania centre. More than two years of planning have come to an end with work beginning on converting a large piece of land covered with trees and brush into a landmark for Timmins. Timmins mayor Vic Power (in the pic on the left) said to those in attendance before turning the sod with a golden-coloured shovel which wore the name Shania Twain: "This is a landmark in Timmins and it's something people will be looking for when they look at postcards of the City of Timmins." New Books On Shania Announced! Amazon.com is now advertising two new Shania books: the first one is "Shania Twain Guitar Collection" available November 15, the second one is "Shania Twain (Overcoming Adversity)" available only May 2001. It seems we are going to have enough to read before Timmins :)

Countrystars.com On Shania. From countrystars.com: "SHANIA'S RELUCTANCE TO TOUR EARLY ON. Once her album THE WOMAN IN ME broke Shania's career open, she still waited over two years to begin her first major tour. One reason was because she didn't want to return to the small-time club scene, and would never have toured unless she was already a big star. Her reason? She had done small time concert work for most of her life and was tired of the club scene." By the time I was 20, I was so tired of doing the bars&I was so tired of doing the clubs, I had done so many of them as a kid. And I had a childhood career, a real childhood career, not just a singer as a child, I had a career as a child. I'd been singing professionally for 20 years. I mean every club and bar my parents could get me in when I was a kid, I was in it," Shania explained to us. So, Shania wasn't worried when people said she didn't tour because she couldn't perform live. She knew that when she could headline, that's when she'd start touring, at the highest level.This puts me in mind of a wonderful story that I saw Toby Keith tell George Jones & Martina McBride on George's show. Of course, Shania did do a small tour...Triple Play, with Toby & John Brannen. The tour didn't make much money, and on the last day, Toby mentioned how he was going back on the road again, to try and earn more. He asked Shania if she planned to do the same. "No," she said. "I probably won't tour again until I play coliseums." He waited for her to laugh, and she didn't. She was dead serious. He thought she was full of it. As he told the story, Toby shook his head in disbelief. "And you know, the next time she toured, she was playing coliseums!" NASA-We Have A Problem...Since the US Shuttle program began, NASA has played quite a few country stars in orbit as part of the Crews 'Wake Up Call' that starts their work period. Well, they have played Garth, Reba, Kenny Rogers, Brooks and Dunn, Dolly Parton, to name a few but no Shania. What's wrong with NASA astronaut corp? No Shania Italian Duet. News posted at yahoo.it last March had Shania fans jubilating for an imminent release of a duet between Shania and Italian singer Eros Ramazzotti, unfortunately, the truth is that the Italian performer preferred to do a duet with Cher! Go figure...

Shania and ESPN. Is there an area of the world that Shania doesn't reach? On Friday night/Saturday morning ESPN Sportscenter show - Shania was mentioned in a lead-in story for a college football game. The announcers are using a plane that Shania once used to travel from one game to another on Saturday. A photo of Shania was shown with one of Lee Corso (an announcer). Shania and "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire." Again from Hazel's Hot Dish at Countrycool.com: 'Halloween night, "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" asked the question, "Which of these stars is not a member of the Grand Ole Opry?" A: Garth Brooks, B: Reba McEntire, C: Shania Twain, D: Randy Travis. The contestant, an anesthetist from Wisconsin, must have been taking some of his own medicine. He asked to use the 50/50, whereas two names were dropped from the list. Left with Garth and Shania, he correctly chose Shania. I shouldn't frown on this outsider who obviously was not a Country Music fan. People right here in Nashville who make their living in the biz have made statements like, "You mean Merle Haggard is not a member of the Opry?" "Waylon's an Opry member." "The Statler Brothers are members of the Opry." The answers are no, no, no. There's 71 Grand Ole Opry members. If there's enough interest, I'll print the complete list.' released before March, 2001. However, Mercury Nashville sources say it's

It is great news, although mostly for European fans since the VHS is only in PAL format, which is mostly used in Europe, not in the US unfortunately. Mutt Wins Big In The UK. From Billboard: London: "For the second year running, Zomba Music was named publisher of the year, and its writer Robert John "Mutt" Lange was named writer of the year at the 20th annual ASCAP/Performing 
Right Society (PRS)Awards, held Oct 18th at London's Grosvenor House Hotel. Lange was the most awarded writer for his song "Come On Over" and 6 others recorded by his wife, Shania Twain. Lange was not present to receive his awards, which were picked up on his behalf by various members of the Zomba Music staff, although Twain appeared on video to praise his songwriting." Shania Has Canada's Best Smile! From the Ottawa Citizen, October 31, 2000: "Singer Shania Twain has Canada's best celebrity smile, a Colgate-Palmolove survey of 2,000 people has concluded. More than one quarter of the respondents - 26 per cent - named the country music queen had the best smile, including 31 per cent of male respondents and 21 pre cent of female respondents. Those surveyed by COMPAS for the toothpaste manufacturer were offered eight suggestions - Ms Twain, actor Michael J. Fox, hockey great Wayne Gretzky, singer Céline Dion, skater Josée Chouinard, actor Jim Carrey, actress Pamela Anderson and comedian Mike Myers." NEW Shania/Revlon Print Ad. In a UK magazine called "HELLO" (issue is OCTOBER 17, 2000) on PAGE 17, there is a HUGE, full-page SHANIA/Revlon Print Ad! It's a LARGE CLOSE-UP of Shania's face that covers the whole page. It should be a NEW one because Shania is wearing a red Turtle-neck, Sleeveless shirt, her hair is straight and she is wearing bright red lipstick. Shania in NEW "Country Weekly." In the NOVEMBER 14, 2000 issue of Country Weekly, there are Several mentions of Shania. (Garth B. & his wife are on the cover of the issue.) PAGE 8: Shania is mentioned in the SCENE & HEARD section. " Here's the real reason Shania Twain attended her high school reunion 
 in Timmins, Ontario, Canada: She first was invited, then univited, to a friend's 
 wedding in Canada. "He called me back and said, 'On the other hand, maybe it's not such a good idea for you to come.' There were going to be 300 people at the wedding and [my presence] was going to be a distraction. It wasn't going to be fun for the wedding couple if I was there, so I said, 'Okay, I won't come.' " But that's the moment, admits Shania, she decided her celebrity would NOT keep her from attending her class reunion. Bravo, for her!" PAGE 16: the page contains photos of VARIOUS stars. The title of the page is All That GLITTERS! There is a NICE, FULL-Length photo of Shania in that Strapless, Feather-trimmed dress that she wore to the 1999 CMAs (& accepted her EOTY award in)! PAGE 56: THAT page contains the Word Search. The title of the word search is "Female Legends"! The words in the word search are ALL names of Famous Singers, Past & Present. 
Shania's name IS on the "Legends" list for the word search! PAGE 57: it contains a Crossword Puzzle. Shania's name is a CLUE to one of the numbers in the puzzle.

No Date Set Yet for Centre Opening. Will Saari, manager of Timmins Tourism Department, has confirmed to this website that the City of Timmins has not set yet an official date for the opening of the Shania Twain Interpretive Centre. Mr. Saari has acknowledged that there has been a delay, but that everybody in Timmins is planning to have the Centre open next July for sure. :) In his own words: 
"..we do not yet have the opening date ironed out yet because of a small delay in construction. Although we are still shooting for a date in early July 2001 I can't yet confirm an actual date. I realize that everyone is getting anxious and we hope to have the details ironed out soon. As soon as we know exactly what is going on we will post on our web-site." ( Thanks a lot Mr. Saari!)

More Speculation on New Album. From countrystars.com update: "WHEN WILL SHANIA TOUR? Shania Twain didn't project a date for completing her new album when she spoke backstage at the CMA Awards. She only confirmed that she'd tour when it was done. You got the impression, however that, at this point, the album is only about half done, which means no early 2001 release." (Thanks Cbspock!)

Shania Centre In Financial Troubles. According to the Timmins Daily Press website, the bids received for the construction of the Shania Twain Interpretive Centre were $1.6 million over city's estimate, read that articleHERE. However, in today's issue of the same newspaper, city officials have reassured that the Centre will be built and finished on time for next July, and that they are planning to reduce costs through some changes to the overall construction plans, such as having smaller parking lots.
